Although this is not a life threatening disease, it may be a life altering affliction. One of the quickest ways to treat the problem is to start planning your pheasant hunt NOW.
If you don’t live in a state with a large pheasant population or have access to land that pheasants inhabit you may want to start planning a trip to one of the many midwestern states with a sizable pheasant population. A few of the states that you may want to research are South Dakota, North Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska, or Montana. While this is by no means a list of the only sates with huntable pheasant population these states would be a good place to start.
One of the first steps is to do some pheasant hunting research (on the internet or in the library), or write the states Department of Natural Resources and request information regarding pheasant hunting opportunities. Most of these states have walk-in hunting programs where hunters have access to private land that has been opened through a cooperative program between the state and the individual land owners, and that information is available through the state. These areas are generally listed in some sort of hunting atlas and are available through the state if you request one.

Once you have decided on a location for your pheasant hunt, it would be wise of you to spend some time preparing your body for a multi-day hunt that may include many miles of hard walking through grass and corn fields. One of the easiest ways to get in shape is to commit to walking between 30 and 60 minutes a day for approximately 2 months prior to your hunt. It is relatively easy and inexpensive to get started all you’ll need is a pair of shorts, a tee shirt and a comfortable pair of running or cross training shoes. Merrell, Columbia, and Hy-tec make a stlye of shoe that are excellent and will enable you to start training with a minimum of break-in. It would also be wise for you to start bringing your dog (if you are taking your own) on these walks. A lot of hunters think about getting themselves in shape, but completely for get about mans best friend. Hunting vests or coats are a matter of personal tastes and preference. A hunting vest that fits over multiple layers of clothing may be a good choice as it will allow you to layer under clothing as the local weather dictates. The Upland Series is a great choice with multiple styles to meet an individuals tastes and preferences. One of the important components in all of my pheasant hunting clothing is the inclusion of blaze orange. This is important especially in pheasant hunting where large groups tend to hunt together. The blaze orange is an additional layer of safety when hunting in groups.
