I have spent many hours and field testing, perfecting my style and pike fly patterns and have developed a series of pike flies that will cover the water column from the top to 10' - 12' in depth.

click here for a great Fly Rod.

While I don't profess that these are the only pike flies that you should use or these are the only pike flies that will catch fish. I do offer you this. I have spent coutless hours of research and have come up with patterns that are very successful and easy to fish. Every fish shown in the phots of this web site were caught on pike flies tied by me.

"These Flies catch fish. Thanks for the tips on how to fish them, it made our trip a success."  Al Peterson

When tying these larger pike flies I like to use synthetic materaials because of their ability to shed water. Believe me after 8 - 10 hours of throwing a big pike fly for BIG PIKE you are going to be thankful for every ounce of weight that has been cut out of the pike fly.

Smooth drags are a must on Fly Reels for Pike.

The old style pike flies that used a lot of rabbit fur were, and still are great pike flies, but because of the leather rabbit hide, after a few casts the pike fly has the weight and feel of a dish rag when it is out of the water. When casting these big heavy pike flies we have affectionately started calling the process, chuck and duck for obvious reasons. Out of this process I started experimenting with different materials that performed as well as some of the leather materials, but would provide the user an expeience more akin to fly fishing  and less like bait casting with a fly rod.

" Had the best flyfishing day of my life using these flies. These flies worked great." Randy Burkhardt

After many proto-types I have developed a fly (the wobbler) that acts much like to Flat Fish or Lazy Ike style plugs that have been used successfully for years. this fly when cast on a floating line will sit on the surface and dive when stripped back. If the fly is used with a sinking line and short leader it will go under water and dive deeper when stripped and float toward the surface when stopped. This is a very effective technique for covering different areas of the water column.

Good Rain Gear is a must when Northern Pike fishing.

I have also been tying a twister tail grub pike fly that absolutely drive the BIG PIKE crazy. Although this is the heaviest of all of the flies that I tie, it is still much lighter than some of the old flies that I used to fish with, and it has become my goto fly for most situations. This fly can be stripped as soon as it hits the water and be fished very near the surface. or it can be weighted or fished with a sink tip to get it down in the water column for those hard to get fish in less than perfect conditions.
